Locating Parcels using the WebGIS
There are two ways to locate specific parcels
using the WebGIS. The first method is to search the database using
a query based on a piece of information about a particular
parcel. For example, you may want to perform a search on the owner's name.
In this case, the WebGIS would take your search text ('Smith') and attempt
to match it against the WebGIS database. A list of matches will be displayed
in the Info tab of the Info Window. The second type of query is a
spatial query. A spatial query will locate and identify all parcels
that are within a certain distance from a selected parcel - these are
called Abutters to the selected parcel. The results of such a query
will be marked on the map in the Map Window, and the relevant data
will be displayed in the Info tab of the Info Window as well.
All of the tools for creating a query are located in the Find tab of the Info Window.
Finding Parcels
using a Query
The WebGIS offers three different kinds of search queries using text:
Search by Parcel Id - Start by changing the Search Type to
Parcel Id as illustrated in the picture below:
Next, type in the Parcel Id that you wish to search for into the
search boxes, and click the go button. The WebGIS will search
through the database for the Parcel Id that you entered. If a single
match is found, the parcel will be outlined in red and highlighted in a
light red as illustrated below:
If a single match is not found, you will receive a list of matched
names that will appear in the Info tab of the Info Window.
Search by Owner Name - Start by changing the Search Type
to Owners Name, then type in the first and/or last name you are searching for in the
appropriate text boxes. If you don't know the first name of the
party that you are searching for, just type in the last name and leave the
first name blank. The WebGIS will search the database for matches.
If a single match is found, the parcel will be outlined in red and highlighted
in a light red, otherwise you will receive a list of matched
names that will appear in the Info tab of the Info Window.
Search by Address - Start by changing the Search Type to Address.
Fill in the Street Number, Street Name, and Street Type
in the appropriate boxes. For best results, use only the number/numeric part of
the Street Number and don't include floor or apartment numbers in
the Street Name. For example, for the address '131-A Warren Avenue,
Apartment #3', you would use '131' for the Street Number, 'Warren'
for the Street Name, and select 'Avenue' from the drop-down list
of Street Types. Click the go button and the WebGIS
will try and match your address to the records in the database. If no matches
are found, try eliminating either the Street Number or changing the
Street Type to 'Any' to improve your results. A single matched parcel
will be outlined in red and highlighted in a light red; otherwise,
you will receive a list of matched addresses that will appear in the Info tab of the Info Window.
Finding Abutters
of a Selected Parcel
If it is necessary to notify nearby landowners of changes in the existing neighborhood conditions
such as a zoning variance application, a lot subdivision or a proposed change of use that may impact their property.
In these cases, the surrounding landowners are known as Abutters.
You can use the Abutters tool to locate these parcels that are within a
specified distance from a selected parcel. Note that you will need to have
a parcel already selected before using the Abutters Tool.
Begin by clicking on the Find tab of the Info Window. The Abutters Tool will appear beneath the other find options. Next,
enter a distance - use '0' (zero) if you just want to match landowners who
are directly adjacent to your selected parcel. If you want to include the
owners located across the street from you as well, try a distance
of '50' - this query will return all property owners within 50 feet of your
selected parcel.
Hit the 'select abutters' button and the Map Window will show
all Abutters to the selected parcel in a red dash-dot style line and the selected abutters distance in a solid red
line. The WebGIS will also zoom to the extent
to the selected parcels, as well as display the assessor's information on
the Abutters in the Info tab of the Info Window. Use the 'clear abutters'
button to remove the Abutters from the view.
Click on 'get mailing data' to download mailing data in a tab delimited format (*.tsv). Click on 'get mailing labels' to download a mailing labels in a Microsoft Word format (*.doc).
